People driving through Pittsburg in Southeast Kansas are bound to come across signs for Kiddieland Amusement Park. Started sometime in the early 1950’s by Pittsburg resident Grant Hicks, this amusement park has become a local institution and practically everyone who grew up in Pittsburg has pleasant memories of spending time here. While Kiddieland Amusement Park is an old favorite with Pittsburg locals, many families on road trips also drop in to spend time here when they are passing through.
As its name indicates, Kiddieland Amusement Park is meant for small children. The rides include a small roller coaster, a ferris wheel and a toy train. The rides are not fancy by modern or even big city standards but they are perfect for young children who might be terrified of going on faster and scarier rides. Located in Lincoln Park, this outdoor amusement area is open during the summer months and is perfect for people with really small kids. If you already own a disneyland stroller, bring it along to this new amusement park. Kids get agitated and tired if they have to walk all day so bringing a stroller is highly recommended. People with older kids are best advised to visit another amusement park though since they might not find the rides to their liking. As a matter of fact, the vintage look of the park has a very welcoming look and lots of people come here just to relive the old days when they had fun in parks such as this. The park, obviously enough, tends to receive lots of family groups since this is a great place for family bonding; one often gets to see parents or grandparents sitting next to children on the rides.
A fairly small amusement park by modern standards, Kiddieland has only 8 rides but it makes up for it by being clean and wholesome. The management and employees of the park are very friendly and they go out of their way to ensure that visitors have a good time. Safety is also given high priority in this park. All these factors are very important given that parents like to go to places where their kids can play without facing any inconvenience or danger. Another important feature of the park is that it has a well-stocked food stand where visitors can buy snacks, drinks and the like. The park also offers Tropical Sno which is a great favorite with visitors during the summer months.
One of the most notable things about this amusement park in Pittsburg is that it is extremely inexpensive. The entrance fee is just $1 per person, over and above which there are special rates for groups. One can easily spend a few hours over here without putting too much of a strain on one’s wallet. As a matter of fact, most visitors end up spending more money on snacks instead of on the entrance fees. The park is open all week except for Monday; the only exception is when the 4th of July falls on a Monday. Its timings vary according to the day of the week, so it’s a good idea to find out for sure before making plans to visit the place.
